All your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors begin as electrical activity in the billions of nerves that make up your brain, known as neurons.  Irregular brainwave activity, also called brain arrhythmia, is believed to be at the root of many brain function & mental health conditions.  Boosting or normalizing that electrical activity — your brain frequency — can improve your emotional and mental health–so you can feel better.

How do we safely and effectively adjust your brain frequencies? With Personalized repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (PrTMS®), an innovative process developed by Kevin T. Murphy, MD, and the team at MindSet in San Diego, California. Here’s how it works.

How brain frequencies affect mental health

Each nerve in your brain generates electrical impulses that travel along the nerve. At the end of the nerve’s axon, the electrical signal triggers the release of neurotransmitters that communicate with the nearby nerves.

Neurotransmitters activate an electrical impulse in the next nerve so it continues to carry the information forward. Neurotransmitters also regulate virtually every system in your body, including your mental health.

When your brain frequency, or electrical activity, is normal, nerves release the amount and type of neurotransmitters needed to maintain your mental health.

However, abnormal brain frequencies lead to an imbalance of neurotransmitters, which in turn can cause mental health problems, such as depressionanxiety, and other disorders.

Measuring your brain frequency

The synchronized electrical activity of all the neurons in your brain creates brainwaves. When you have an electroencephalogram (EEG), electrodes placed on your head pick up the brainwaves and display them on paper or a monitor.

Over years of evaluating EEGs in many patients, medical experts identified normal and abnormal brainwaves. We can also use EEGs to identify precise brainwave abnormalities or arrhythmias associated with specific mental health disorders.

For example, when you have depression or you’re diagnosed with an anxiety disorder, your brainwaves are different from the EEG of people who aren’t depressed or anxious.

PrTMS®  adjusts your brain frequencies

Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) generates a magnetic pulse that safely travels through your skull and changes the electrical activity in your brain. Our PrTMS®  system delivers exceptional accuracy by targeting the exact area of your brain with abnormal brain frequencies.

We follow three steps to ensure precise results:

Brainwave assessment

We perform a common test known as an electroencephalogram, using the PeakLogic ComfortScan™ EEG to measure your brainwave activity. The recording takes less than five minutes to complete. Then we use the information to map your brainwaves and determine the areas of abnormal electrical activity.

Symptom questionnaire

Each patient completes a series of questionnaires, which provide qualitative information about their brain health and symptoms.

Information evaluation

Your brainwave map and symptoms are analyzed by our software, providing the information we need to personalize your treatment.  A treatment plan is tailored specifically to you, and all treatment plans are reviewed and approved by a qualified PrTMS® provider.

Our 3-step process allows us to pinpoint the precise areas of your brain that need a boost from transcranial magnetic stimulation. As you go through a series of PrTMS®  treatments, your brainwave activity is restored to harmony, neurotransmitters stabilize, and your symptoms may improve.

We work with a range of mental health conditions with PrTMS®, including anxiety, depression, and PTSD. We also help patients with concussionssleep disorders, and neurodevelopmental disorders, such as ADHD and autism.

Proving brain frequency changes affect mental health

PrTMS may provide an alternative non-drug, non-invasive treatment for patients with brain function and mental health conditions–even when other treatments have failed.

Brain function testing is done after every 5 PrTMS® sessions to monitor progress and optimize your treatment plan to your unique needs. We perform these EEGs throughout your treatment, as well as gather information from neurocognitive questionnaires, allowing us to track your progress and personalize your treatment.
